Hello.
Yes, I used a course of patches successfully. It took about three months, with the patches getting smaller, but it worked.
I was a 40-a-day compulsive smoker for about 35 years. I was scared to try to stop, because I thought I would fail, and because I could not imagine life without the pleasure I got from a cigarette. The only times I was without a cigarette in my hand was when I was asleep, or eating.
However, with much trepidation, I visited the nurse at my doctor's, on New Years Eve, and got a prescription for 24-hour patches, and went home, and smoked my last packet, and went to sleep.
The next morning I woke up, and put the patch on, and waited to start feeling terrible......but I didn't.
I went back to sleep, and had a relaxing day, dozing as I had planned, and chewing loads of the Tic Tacs I had stockpiled. As the day went on, I was worried that something dreadful would start to happen.....but it didn't. I got through the first day without a cigarette. And the second day. And the third.
Without question, the hardest part (for me) was to make the decision to try to stop. Maybe I was just lucky, in that the patches gave me the nicotine I was not getting, but in all honesty I can't say that I physically felt I was missing it.
And now, 3 or 4 years later, (don't know, don't care) I'm finding that my Tic Tac addiction is lessening considerably; some mornings I don't have a single one, but I MUST have a packet (of Tic Tacs) in my pocket just in case (the Compulsion is still present).
So there you are; the patches definitely worked for me, but if they don't suit you, then keep trying something else until you're successful. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
