If you have strep is it possible to have mono?!

Question: If you have strep is it possible to have mono.?
thank you.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes, it is possible to have both at one time.
I am assuming the symptom in question is a sore throat.? And possbily a fever.? Do you have white streaks or spots on your tonsils.? Do you have a persistant fever.? (read: does not seem to be effected much by Advil or Tylenol) Do you feel sleepy.? Lethargic.? (not exactly sleepy, but like you have no energy)
Go see your doc and get a throat culture done. You can also get a blood test for Mono at the same time.
Anytime you have a sore throat and fever together, you should get a throat culture done. If you have strep and it's left untreated, it can develope into a heart condition called rheumatic fever, which is extremely serious. It can also settle in other parts of you body, like your kidneys, and cause other dangerous problems.
The good news is: if you *do* have a bacterial infection (strep) you will feel marked relief within 24 hours of taking the antibiotics. However, antibiotics will *not* help a viral sore throat, so it's important to have it tested.
Good luck to you. I hope you are feeling better soon!Health Question & Answer

I had them both at the same time when I was 17. Talk about miserable. And to make it even worse, I had the little-known symptom of strep that is vomiting. How fun it that.? Your throat already seems like someone took a cheese grater to it, and then you throw up, and then you have acid on open sores. Oh boy, what fun.

If you think you have either, you should go get checked out at the doctor. Especially if you think you have strep.Health Question & Answer

of course, there is nothing that says you can't have two infections at one time.Health Question & Answer
