Well, you probably were born addicted and had to go through withdrawals when you were a baby. It is only bad if you start indulging in Drugs. This is good for you to know so that you know that you are more susceptible to becoming addicted if you should do drugs or even take prescribed medication of an addictive nature. so also make sure your doctor knows this before they prescribe meds to you if you should ever need them. Knowing something like this gives you power and control over your life instead of ending up in a situation unwanted. My husbands friend was a heroin baby and was adopted by a good family. As a young adult he injured his back and the doctor prescribed pain medication. He ended up becoming addicted to the pain pills and his life ended up coming to a tragic end. I only tell you this so as you can steer clear of such a thing and keep negative things from happening to you. This does not mean you will become addicted but it is important with your medical history to know this, and make wise and informed choices. This does not affect your character it is something that was out of your control so I hope the best for you in your life and stay away from things that are unhealthy for you...best to you..Health Question & Answer

It means your mom was taking Opiates while she was pregnant with you. In medicine, the term opiate describes any of the narcotic found in opium, opium is used to make Heroin or Morphine, Codeine also contains Opiates. Babies born to opiate users have low birth weight, a lot of them die and of course those who survive are addicted to opiates at birth so have to go through a detox process because the baby will begin to have opiate withdrawal which causes bad symptoms but can be overcome with treatment. In newborns exposed to opiates during pregnancy have their overall brain growth is compromised. The decreased brain growth can lead to many of the problems these children develop in childhood.

As the opioid-exposed children age, more consequences of their drug exposure can surface. While still an infant, many of the children (3 out of 4) will have motor development delays. They will have muscle rigidity and delays in developing their equilibrium, acquisitional, and transitional motor skills.

As children enter preschool and elementary school, the long-term consequences will become quite noticeable. Their neurological damage will effect their motor planning skills.Children with impaired motor planning demonstrate a lack of coordination and show persistent fine tremors. Although the child may be able to accomplish certain motor tasks, the quality and precision of movement is affected. Functional skills such as buttoning clothes, tying shoe laces, using scissors, and completing paper-and-pencil tasks are difficult. The child will lack spatial awareness, orientation, directionality, and left-right discrimination.

Opiate-exposed children can also have communication disorders.

I hope that information helped and answered your concerns. If you are older now you can talk to a doctor and he should be able to assess if there is any permanent damage.Health Question & Answer
