Possible HIV risk, and when to test; Very upset, please help?!

Question: Possible HIV risk, and when to test; Very upset, please help.?
Hi, I am fairly upset right now; quite worried and angry with myself.
I need some honest answers that will lighten my mood about this till I get tested.

First things first; I have been dating a guy off and on for over a year. In between that time, he's only been with one other woman, he used protection and it was a one time thing. He is 30 years old, and has a little girl.

Well, we have had unprotected sex a few times, but he's only ejaculated inside me once. Last Sunday to be exact. He's fairly healthy, never really gets sick -if that makes any difference-.

I've always been a big worry wart about this disease. Always scared I might get it. Well for a while my anxiety with it has died down a lot. But this encounter really brought back up. I'm tired of living like this. I just want to live a normal life and be happy with my boyfriend.

I don't want to really bring this up to him because he will think I'm losing my mind, but it really is my anxiety tearing me apart.
I am very strong on getting testing soon for this. To ease my mind, and to start back up on life again. AND make right choices in the heat of the moment.

What are my chances.? They say 1-1000 if you have unprotected sex with someone who IS HIV positive. I'm not sure when he got tested last but I'm leaning towards him being negative -but you can never know for sure without a test-.

If someone is HIV+ is there a way to have HIV- children.?
Is it true you don't live very long if you do have HIV.?
What can I do to help my anxiety about this....?
also, what is the accuracy rate of being tested within the next 2 weeks.?

Thank you so much, I just really need some help from people who care/know how this feels.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
First I would ask him if he's tested recently. The window period is 3 months, HIV shows up 90% of the time after 30 days, 94-96 after 60 days and 99.6% after 90 days.

Yes you can have children if you are HIV+.

No it's not true anymore, in fact if you follow Dr's instructions you will live your normal life expectancy.

I understand your fears, to really reduce your anxiety ask the man to get a HIV test with you, But even if you do, for your peace of mind retest for the next 2 months.

ok here are a couple of answers.
1. as far as testing goes, you can have a simple one done at any local health agency, results may take a week or two. And if you feel that you might have been exposed then they will most likely test you again in 3-6 months.

2. as far as passing HIV on to kids goes. only an HIV+ mother can give HIV to the baby. HIV is not a genetic issue, rather a blood one. Now if a pregnant mom follows a medication regimen during pregnancy she has a greater chance of her kid having Downs then contracting HIV

3. as far as lifespan goes for HIV + people, it varies. it all depends on when the person finds out and begins treatment. it also varies depending on how long it takes for the HIV to progress to AIDS.Health Question & Answer

I don't know what the protocol is now but a few years ago I helped an injured man, and got his blood all over my arms which were scratched from my ferret, my husband made me check into this I called the health department and they said in six months. Might be different now though just call your local health department and they will set you up.Health Question & Answer

Women who have HIV and are pregnant can significantly reduce the risk of infecting their baby if they take medications during pregnancy, and have a C section.

Most people who have HIV have no symptoms for several years. You can not tell if someone is infected just by looking at them. The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get tested.

Many people who have HIV are living longer, healthier, due to improvements in treatment.

Testing is designed to detect antibodies to HIV. It does take some time for the body to produce enough antibodies to be detected in the test. Testing within 2 weeks of possible exposure is too soon to be accurate. More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive.

Someone who is infected can pass the virus on to other people within a day after they themselves are infected, long before they would test positive, and long before they would show any symptoms.Health Question & Answer
