Does darker skin tan faster then lighter skin?!

Question: Does darker skin tan faster then lighter skin.?
For example would a person who is naturally darker tan faster or vice versa.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Darker skin will tan much faster because of the melanin which gives skin it color. It's closer to the surface of the skin and can absorb the rays of sun better. Whereas someone who is light skinned will more than likely burn because the melanin is deep under the skin. As the person lies out in the son, it slowly begins to come to surface of skin . The sun is what brings it closer. As soon as they stop trying to tan, the melanin will gradually return to deep withing the skin. Light skin tends to burn more than tan, because it takes such a long time for the pigment to rise in the correct position. I was told by my professor in college while I was studying Anatomy, that the pigment, melanin can actually absorb the harmful parts of the suns rays without causing a lot of damage to the darker person. Like everyone else, they can still burn if over exposed to the sun. No one is exempt from sun burn.Health Question & Answer

When equally exposed to long periods of sunlight, dark skin will fare better since lighter skin will begin to burn sooner. However, measured in periods of tanning, lighter skin will show more visible results than dark skin, being darker by a higher percentage from its starting color.Health Question & Answer

I can't say for sure, but from experience, darker skin tans faster. Maybe because it skips the burning phase.Health Question & Answer

darker skin tans better than lighter skin and is less prone to being burntHealth Question & Answer
