I haven't yet talked to my vet about the cost of my ferrets chemotherapy. About how much does IV chemotherapy for a ferret cost.? I will be heading to the vet tomorrow, but I wanted a heads-up on how much money I will need. Thanks.Health Question & Answer

You need to speak to your vet about this as it's very dependant on the type of cancer, the treatment protocol you are doing and the area you are located. It's not even possible for someone to give you a ballpark figure online as we don't even know where you are and what currency you are dealing in let alone what protocol you are looking at, they vary in type and length which would greatly affect cost.

As an example I know some doing the Tufts protocol for Lymphoma have spent about $400 on medications and an additional $600 or so on visits and testing (see link below) that being in USD. However around that same time a friend doing the same treatment located in Canada spent around $1200 on medications and and additional $1000 on office visits and testing, in CAD which at the time was not quite as strong as it is now. Even with currency exchange for the exact same treatment the variance is about $1000 partially because of country but also because the person in the US lived in a small city and the person in Canada lived in a large urban center where cost of living was much higher.

Good luck with the treatment and I hope your little one responds, they have made some wonderful advancements in Ferret Chemotherapy over the past few years and more and more the little guys are seeing some good results. Good for you for looking out for your little family member and I really hope all goes well during the visit.Health Question & Answer

i realize you love your pet, but chemo can be outrageously expensive, just as it is for a PERSON. Seriously, the drugs and/or visits can run into thousands of dollars

If your pet even needs chemo, make sure your vet thinks its a viable option -- have your little ferret put to sleep if needs be. The vet really will know what's best. There's no way we YA-ers can know how to answer your question. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I highly doubt chemo for ferrets is even available.Health Question & Answer
