If it's not urine in my bladder...what is it?!

Question: If it's not urine in my bladder...what is it.?
Today I had a urologist appointment because I had a ultrasound before and my doctor said I had a distended bladder. The urologist gave me an ultrasound after I went to the bathroom. The ultrasound said I had 800 cc in my bladder. They had me catherize but only about 350 cc came out. They're going to put me through a cat scan to try to figure out what it could be. I was just wondering, does anyone here know any possibilities of what it could be.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Your urologist may be looking for a tumor or possible thickening of the bladder wall. If you had a bladder scan in the office it is possible that the bladder scan machine itself is not calibrated properly. This means that it could potentially see more "liquid" in the area that they scanned and it may not truly show how much urine is in your bladder.

If they catheterized you in the office with what is called a "straight cath", depending on what position you are in, all of the urine in your bladder may not have voided through the cath. If cat scan comes back negative your urologist may have you come in for a cystoscopy to check the inside of your bladder. If there happens to be a cyst, tumor or tissue causing a blockage of urine ,and if it is smaller than 2cm it is hard to define on a ct scan. Thus the cystoscopy. It could be alot of potentially harmless things. It is much better to get the CT and possible cysto than worry about what could happen. Depending on your age and gender any number of things could be involved. Good Luck and i hope this helps!! :=)Health Question & Answer
