Belly button ring & healing?!

i've been thinking about getting my belly button pierced, but its april now and i want to be able to swim by the middle of june, maybe sooner.
i've heard a bunch of different times that it neesd to heal..so what does it really need.?
if i got it asap, would i be able to swim by then.?
or should i just wait til next year.?
