What can you do around your house to help with allergies?!

Question: What can you do around your house to help with allergies.?
Answers:
Ridding your home of allergens can be quite a job, but once initially done it is not as hard to keep up.
First, check for anything that gathers dust. If possible have as little carpet as possible, as no matter how often you vacuum it will retain dust. If you must have carpet, find a vacuum cleaner that filters, or the dust returns to the air. Another vacuum cleaner that is excellent is a rainbow, because the dust goes into the water so that it is not recirculated into the air. also, do not put powder in the carpet, as it is not all removed and can aggravate allergies.

If you have cloth furniture, I recommend Febreze anti-allergen. I have found it helpful. also, put anti-allergen covers on the pillows you sleep on.

Sweep and mop the floors often, not forgetting under furniture. Swiffers are great to remove the dust, and the wet-jet can be a big help if you have a fair amount to clean, as you won't have to pull out a bucket each time.

Next, give your home a good inspection for mold and mildew. If you have black in the corners of your shower or tubs, that is mold and mildew starting to grow. Although there are cleaners that promise to kill them, using chlorine bleach in a spray bottle is cheap and effective. Whether you use a cleaner or bleach, move towels and rugs away from where you are going to spray, because most of the cleaners have bleach. Just spray the bleach on and come back in about half an hour to clean.

also, especially if you have young children, remove the cushions from your couch and chairs to be sure nothing has been spilled inside the cushions which has remained damp and started to mold. If anything is there, I recommend having a spray bottle with Lysol 4 in 1, spray it until it is just damp, and towel dry it as much as possible, then leave it open so it can dry.

Be careful if you have inside plants, as the dirt can often contain mold spores. Don't allow the dirt to be too wet, and don't keep them in the room where the person with the allergies sleeps.

Many people are also allergic to inside pets. If you have inside pets, you may let them visit someone for a few days and see if the allergies improve, and be sure that urine and feces are cleaned immediately.

Check around your baseboards and outside around the bottom of the house to be sure you are not having a problem with mold. If you are, then contact a professional.

If you have central heat or air, be sure to change the filter monthly, and it is often better to keep the windows and doors closed to keep the outside pollen from coming in.

I know this sounds like a lot, but after the first time, it is not near so hard.Health Question & Answer
