The doc says it's not pneumonia but...?!

Question: The doc says it's not pneumonia but....?
It's long guys, but here it is...

I've been sick for about a week now. It started while I was in France over spring break. I thought I just had a cold, so our tour guide helped me get some OTC meds for cold and flu to help me get through. They helped for a couple days, then I started feeling badly again and it got worse.

I'm coughing constantly; I can't stop and my chest and abdomen hurt from it. I am bringing up yellow-ish green gunk. My chest feels tight, I can't breathe well at all. I have to take very shallow breaths to keep from coughing. I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen to my brain - I'm dizzy all the time and my vision is blurry.

I can't sleep at night because I'm coughing so much. Even propping myself up doesn't help much. Humidifier not much good either.

As soon as I got back from France I went to the ER for a chest x-ray and they said it wasn't pneumonia. The doc diagnosed me with acute bronchitis, gave me benzonatate and sent me home with a note saying I could return to work or school in one day.

It's been three days. I feel like I can hardly stand. I walk bent over because my chest and back hurt from the coughing. My head is spinning and I can't focus on school at all; sitting through class is agony. I cough all the time, bringing up gunk and it makes my eyes water and the room spin. Sometimes I go into coughing spasms that I can't get out of and I can't breathe. It's really scary.

I've had bronchial pneumonia once before, and it wasn't even this bad.
Help please.? :(Health Question & Answer

I think you need to consult another doctor. I've got the same thing, and mine is pneumonia. My doctor gave me the benzonatate (200mg) and a Z-pack. That helps a little ... but I'm still waking up often during the night coughing, and that's even with me sleeping sitting up.

You can also take Advil with benzonatate, I've been taking it nonstop. That'll help with the soreness. I've also been taking Robitussin DM between benzonatate doses if I'm feeling really bad (like the benzonatate is supposed to last 8 hours, so I take the Robitussin 4 hours in, and it lasts 4 hours. The pharmacist said I can do that, but don't take both non-stop or it could restrict your coughing too much. And get some cough drops, they do help a little.

And take some time off to get better. I swear, sometimes these doctors can be so stupid.Health Question & Answer

I agree go back to the doctor immediately and if you do not like his diagnosis then see another 1 and keep going until the problem is diagnosed.Health Question & Answer

I'd be going to another doctor ASAP.That sounds quite a bit more serious than the first doctor thought it was.
