Is there a way to speed up recovery of adult chickenpox?!

Question: Is there a way to speed up recovery of adult chickenpox.?
I am 25, and due to my sick-note brother who had chcikenpox a couple of weeks ago, I have now caught it!

My job relies on how you look, so am worried about taking too much time off because of chickenpox- Is there a way of speeding up recovery time.? I am fairly lucky I suppose (apart from having pox in my mouth and throat) as the pox are on my scalp, face, shoulders, back and chest.

Any tips or hints would be much appreciated! Thanks xHealth Question & Answer

There is no way to speed up recovery time, and each individual responds differently. It's possible that this summer your pock marks will not tan as much as the rest of your skin, so I would be careful of sun exposure. Make-up will be your best friend after the scabs have fallen off.

If you are in the first 24 hours of your illness, certain antiviral meds in the acyclovir family may modify the disease. The results are usually not overly dramatic. Check with your doctor.

Be careful of a recurrent fever, shortness of breath and cough, as chicken pox pneumonia is an occasional problem in adults, especially in pregnant women. Can get quite serious.

Too late for you now, but you might want to put in a plug for the chicken pox vaccine that could have prevented this. Best luck for a rapid recovery.Health Question & Answer

Chickenpox (varicella) is a highly contagious infection with the varicella-zoster virus that produces a characteristic itchy rash, consisting of small, raised, blistered, or crusted spots.
If you or your child falls into a high-risk group, your doctor may suggest an antiviral drug such as acyclovir (Zovirax) or another drug called immune globulin intravenous (IGIV). These medications may lessen the severity of the disease when given within 24 hours after the rash first appears. Other antiviral drugs, such as valacyclovir (Valtrex) and famciclovir (Famvir), also may lessen the severity of the disease, but have been approved for use only in adults. In some cases, your doctor may recommend getting the chickenpox vaccine after exposure to the virus. This can prevent the disease or lessen its severity.

DO NOT SCRATCH!!!
I had pox in my late teens & have the scars to prove it,bad ones,to ease the itching i would take a salt bath & rub salt on the affected area, sounds odd but it helped reduce the need to scratch if you don't scratch, the pox will go unnoticed, also use vitamin e cream after if you do have dark marks it helps reduce themHealth Question & Answer

I has chicken pox about 12 years ago. As it's highly contagious I was told by the doctor to stay inside for 2 two weeks. Try not to scratch as this will leave scarring.Health Question & Answer

Unfortunaltely chicken pox is one of those diseases that you can't do much about, you just have to let it run its course.Health Question & Answer
