Question: I've had bulimia since I was 12 years old and I'm 37 now and still having major problems with it...?
I have a bad image of myself and need help! I'm depressed and bulimic.. One thing feeds the other.. My GP won't help and the Psychs I've seen won't address the issue.. What type of help is out there for me.? Health Question & Answer

There are always support groups you can join and other therapists to see.. There are also places you can go to change your behavior (but usually cost a lot).. That would be your best option, but for now, go to a therapist or psychiatrist.. Don't give up on the therapy.. GPs are not always trained in counseling so probably can't help, and it's a psychological issue, so you need to find a psychiatrist who is trained in eating disorders (you can ask about this when you set up an appointment).. Remember, however, that if you've had this for over 20 years, it's not going to be resolved overnight, so could take lots of time with your therapist or psychiatrist..

What a tough ordeal.. No wonder you're feeling so helpless and alone.. At least you're trying to find help.. Just get it from someone qualified to help and not someone who can do more harm than good (board-certified psychiatrist, who can help with both meds and counseling)..Health Question & Answer

I definatly would NOT go to an "impatient" treatment facility, as people who have addictions and alcoholism need to have a lot of patience, and tolerance as do the people who work with them at the facility.. LOL! Anyway, I like what everyone is saying.. Please go try other ways of getting help.. Especially with the self esteem issues.. We can be our own worst enemy, and we see ourselves as infinitely more ugly, undesirable, or any other negative outlook, and we just use it to alienate ourselves from our peers who probably see us as beautiful, charming, funny or brilliant.. If only the media taught people to love themselves for who and what they are rather than what they look like and what they have......Health Question & Answer

Look around for a different therapist and a psychiatrist.. A therapist can help you cope.. While psychiatrist really only care about the medicine part of things.. Maybe you can look into some impatient treatment centers.. Health Question & Answer

think about what caused you to be bulimic(probably cause of the way you looked) and realize what a big mistake that was shouldnt have changed a thing and regret it for the rest of your lifeHealth Question & Answer
