Is there a concern when nondiabetic peaks at 200 1 hour after a meal but returns to 120 2 hours after a meal?!

Question: Is there a concern when nondiabetic peaks at 200 1 hour after a meal but returns to 120 2 hours after a meal.?
I keep reading that a nondiabetic should never be higher than 140 at any time.. I'm never higher than that unless I eat -- then I have a spike, but it comes down immediately.. Is this normal.?Health Question & Answer

Non diabetics blood sugar range is 70 to 139 2 hours after a meal.. Yours is returning to normal quickly as it should.. I don't think you have a problem.. Food causes blood sugars to rise in all people, it is normal.. Yours look okHealth Question & Answer

I also think you may be pre-diabetic................A spike going as high as 200mg/dl one hour after eating is out of the normal range..

It probably means that you started off with an elevated blood sugar for it to go that high and anyone who has elevated blood sugars needs to be treated as a diabetic..

It's time to get tested..Health Question & Answer

Time to speak to your doctor.. Those numbers are above normal.. A spike is normal, but up to 200 is too high.. 200 is even high for a diabetic..
What is your blood sugar when you are fasting.? Maybe test when you wake up.. Fasting readings at 126+ suggest diabetes..Health Question & Answer

Yes it is very normal to spike immediately after a meal..
As long as it returns quickly to a normal level you are fine..
If this is a deep concern, next visit to your doctor, I'd ask for blood work to be done to be on the safe side & calm your worries..Health Question & Answer

The normal range for sugar spike post-meal is up to 140.. Spikes between 140 and 200 indicate that you are what is called pre-diabetic.. You have impaired insulin response..Health Question & Answer
