How soon after breakfast or lunch or dinner should I take my test.?

i test just a minute before eating.
whenever you test, keep a log of when as well as your score. that way you'll see any trends, and anything out of the ordinary will jump out at you!
as far as after, some say to test one hour after you've started to eat. some say 2 hours after you've finished eating. again, whenever you test, just keep a record. you may find, for example, that 1 hour after starting to eat that your average score is 180, while 2 hours after eating the average score is 220. or something like that.
personally, i only test before eating, 2-3 times a day. i don't want to know what my levels are up to after eating! but i'm not on drugs, never have been. i was diagnosed in 4/05 and am under control by diet and supplements. my 8/08 HbA1c = 5.8%, glucose = 110. so i find that by only testing before i eat that my meter's 14 day average will correlate very well with my lab results for glucose and HbA1c. if i tested after eating my meter's 14 day average would be a lot higher. when i go for my lab tests i can estimate fairly well what my results will be based on my meter's 14 day average of testing only before eating.Health Question & Answer

I would check at different times during the day. Just after getting up, right before eating a meal, two hours after eating, and right before going to bed and any time you feel different than usual. Varying the times give you a better look at you overall control.Health Question & Answer
