Question: Can you get HIV from a razor.?
Hi. a few nights ago while i was shaving, i cut myself on a razor. i didnt know my dad(who does not have HIV) used the same razor at about 6am in the morning, i used it at about 11pm.he said he did not cut him self.i hear HIV only last outside the body for a few minutes. there was no blood on the razor when i used and it was washed in hot water. is it possible to get HIV from someone who does not have it.?should i get tested.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It is impossible to get HIV from someone who does not have it! also, HIV dies within a few minutes when outside the body, exposed to air, so enough time had passed that you would not have been at risk, even if your dad did have HIV.

FYI: Hep C can live outside the body for up to 4 days, so you should never share razors or toothbrushes with someone who has Hep C. (Those items could have blood on them, and Hep C is spread by blood.)Health Question & Answer

There is a low risk in sharing a razor, but there has to be one of the people using it who is HIV+. So if you are negative and your Dad is also HIV- there is nothing to worry about.

Once HIV+ blood hits the air, the HIV starts to die and once the blood is dried, the HIV is dead.Health Question & Answer

If your dad doesn't have HIV, you can't get it from him like that. Maybe you should talk to your dad about it. He may be able to educate you. Health Question & Answer
