Answers:
Not a blood test. Your gynecologist has to take samples during a routine pelvic exam. This is called a papsmear test. If the results of the test come back negative, your doctor will have you get an colposcopy - which is when they look inside you with a camera closer to see if your cervical cells are abnormal. They might take a biopsy (sample of your cervix to determine the whether your abnormality is low or high grade.) If your test is abnormal 99 % of the time, you have HPV and depending on the cells; status, it will either go away on its own, or you have to be screened every 6 months for cervical cancer.
Men can be tested - but they don't have any symptoms if they're carrying it. Men will most likely have samples of their urethra checked for abnormal cells. That is how it works.Health Question & Answer
