Question: Why should the government have to pay to cure a smokers lung cancer.?
especially with our contemporary society's wide knowledge of the risksHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
Not only smokers have a lung cancer.
I know persons who died without having smoked a single cigarette in all their life.
Let's say that we all breath smog. So everyone of us can have a lung cancer.
And to have payed cures is a right.

Besides, the governments sell cigarette. They make lot of money on our health!! They say: smoke kills! But they keep selling them!Health Question & Answer

When smoking is illegal, that may be a possibility, much the same way they wont give liver transplants to alcoholics, or organ transplants to drug addicts. BUT, if its that important to you, then you need to fight to make smoking illegal. Yeah, i was educated of the risks when I started smoking, but when I was 13, that was NOT what I was thinking about. If cigs were illegal in the first place, I never would have smoked one, and never would have had cancer. Playing devil's advocate, one could make a case that since the gov it allows it to be legal, that they should have to pay for my medical care.Health Question & Answer

Because the government comes up with the what has to be put in a cigarette in order for it to be "up to there level of acceptance"

why can't a cigarette just be tobacco.......whys it gotta have all this crap in it......i dunno but they regulate the contents of it so they should have to pay..

And um i dont think the gov't is paying to cure a smokers lung cancer i think there just trying to find a way to cure lung cancer for anyone be it first hand smoke or second.Health Question & Answer

Hospital treatment of any sort is very, very expensive. The true cost of cancer treatment for a single patient would run into the 100s of 1000s. If someone doesn't have the money to pay for this, do you believe that they should be left to suffer & die with no treatment.?

Smoking causes many health problems, which place a huge burden on a country's health system, but I don't believe that in a wealthy, humane society people can be denied adequate health care because of a lifestyle choice, no matter how dumb that choice.

A government's energy is better spent trying to reduce the pressure on health care by preventing people from taking up smoking in the first place.Health Question & Answer

You're right, and while we're at it. Why should they pay for overweight people who have diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, knee & leg problems etc etc . Lets face it fat people know the risks of being overweight. Imagine what the costs are for just one obese person, who has all of the above conditions. These people know the risks, yet don't lose weight, so basically they're not "innocent" either.

Health Question & Answer

Why should taxpayers have to pay for welfare moms.? Especially since they knew how they got pregnant.? They know the risks.

Because it's what we as a decent society does. We take care of each other and help each other.

Health Question & Answer

Same reason that it should help pay for disease that are caused from excessive drinking, unsafe sex, unbalanced diet, injury from to much exercise, unsafe driving, high risk sport etc.
