Antidepressants, I've tried almost everything and nothing has worked.?!

Question: Antidepressants, I've tried almost everything and nothing has worked..?
So many times I've read people commenting "Oh and by the way you won't even need the Clonazepam (or Lorazepam) when the ______ kicks in. I've already tried Xanax, Paxil, Zoloft, and Lexapro and none of them have done anything for me. Now it's been two weeks since i started Prozac and I don't feel very optimistic. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I suffer from social phobia and OCD (only obsessive thoughts, no rituals). Thanks in advance.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
First, Clonazepam, Lorazepam & Xanax are not antidepressants as you must know...they are anti-anxiety meds.
With antidepressants you need to give meds 6-8 weeks to begin to work. Many people also need a "cocktail" of meds. Wellbutrin, Effexor XR or Cymbalta may be good additions to the Prozac.

I agree that therapy is a necessary component to your treatment to learn how to change your obsessive thinking patterns & learn new ways of coping with your social phobia & the underlying reasons for them. See a professional social worker or psychologist.
