require to do the best at getting you better.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It depends on the person and how well they can manipulate the system. If you don't have insurance and you get onto state insurance, your treatments will be the lowest cost treatments that the doctors can get approved.
If you are on insurance, sometimes you and your doctors have to fight for certain tests or new medicines. I had a doctor that wanted to do a simple PET scan before we did my radiation to make sure that we got it all - surgery would have been held off for at least a year because of the tissues becoming brittle if we did not get it all.
It is not normal proceedure, so the doctor made several phone calls to the insurance, and finally asked for the person's name because if I ended up dying and the family chose to sue, he didn't want to be the only one to be on the law suit. It was a scare tactic that luckily worked. I did have more tumor in another part of my body - that PET scan may have saved my life, but my insurance didn't want to cover it. Not only that, but the hospital wouldn't do it without insurance apporval if I didn't have the cash upfront.
Your health care here in the states IS highly dependant on what you can pay, what your insurance wants to pay for, and what doctors and clinics are willing to do to make sure you get the healthcare you need.
It's a broken system that needs fixed.Health Question & Answer

No. That's not quite true . . insurance usually covers the cost of cancer treatment . . it is when a patient does not have insurance that they might encounter problems. It does not mean they will not get treated but it does mean it might be extremely costly for them. Once a patient can no longer afford medical treatments than they will qualify for medicare or medicaid which will pick up the costs for treatments.

Most cancer treatments followed a 'protocol' . . which is a 'recipe' of cocktails, radiation, surgery or other treatments that have been known to 'work' for most patients. Every cancer has a protocol to follow . . but not all patients are the same . . some respond . . some don't . . some are not healthy generally to undergo the harsh treatment . . age can be a factor . . other medical complications can delay treatments. But most patients with cancer will follow that protocol . . all are treated the same standard way.

However many cancer patients in the US have an abundance of options they can sort through . . too many sometimes . . and if they find a treatment they think might work out for them . . they can use additional money or funds to try it out. Sometimes their insurance will accept the treatment and cover it . . other times a patient will need to find alternate funding or fund it themselves. But it is treatment in addition to standard treatment . . treatment that is unknown or experimental.

Cancer is such a rotten and fearful disease that many patients are too ill, frightened, or not experienced enough to conduct their own research. So they follow the protocol and do not question their doctors. All are offered the same protocol for their disease type. Cancer patients in the US have the option of doing their own research and locating what they feel is the 'best treatments' . . it has little to do with payments . . and more to do with those who have the ability to do the research and locate their own funding. If they find a treatment that is not covered by research but which they feel is the best treatment . . than sometimes they are required to pay for it out of pocket.

So . .its not about the money . . its about the ability to seek out what the patient feels is the 'best treatment'.Health Question & Answer

No it is absolutely not true. Many Hospitals have Charity Funds available to assist in situations like this and States SRS is much more lenient in granting assistance for cancer victims

Many Drug Company's will work with the Physician and give the drugs free if the patient qualifies due to income.

If you know of this type of instance, talk with the Physician and describe the financial problem to see if the patient qualifies.Health Question & Answer

I do not believe that. I have colon cancer and have no insurance. I am on disability but was told I would not get my disability insurance until Nov of 09. I have been getting excellent treatment from the cancer center, hospital and other departments who keep testing me. I have over 100k in bills but they have not cancelled my treatments not have treated me any differently.Health Question & Answer

this depends on the situation. some uninsured people are very fortunate to obtain funds for treatment, but i am not sure if treatment is guaranteed to all...

this question would be unnecessary if we were to implement socialized medicine... Health Question & Answer
