Why Am I Tired Even After Mono?!

Question: Why Am I Tired Even After Mono.?
Last year I started feeling really tired in November. I had no energy and didn't want to go to school or work. In January I took a blood test and found out I had infectious mononucleosis (mono). In June I took another blood test and the results came back negative for mono. At the time I had them check my thyroid as well. I rested all summer to gain back all the strength I felt I had lost. Now, in October, I am still feeling tired all the time. I really have no energy. I felt tired over the summer, but somebody told me that mono still had an effect even after the tests came back negative. Is it still the mono or do you suppose it could be something else.? I am trying to avoid the doctor's for as long as possible because I am short on money and I don't have any health insurance. If anyone has been through this, I just need to know if it's mono or if it's really something I should have checked out and tested (again). I know chronic fatigue can mean a lot of things from depression to cancer.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Have you considered Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (also called M.E. in over here in the UK) I suffer from this condition myself and although mine wasn't triggered from mono (or glandular fever as it's called over in the UK), it is a very common trigger of CFS/ME.

I'd definately recommend going back to the doctors though, as I would recommend you having blood tests again. It is possible you've become anaemic, or developed thyroid problems since then. If not, then the likely diagnosis is CFS/ME - although I'm no medical professional, so don't take my word for it. I'm sure you don't want to self-diagnose yourself with CFS/ME only to find out a while down the road that actually you're simply anaemic!! Being diagnosed with this illness is basically a process of elimination of other illnesses so the diagnosis does take a while.

If you're at school, then I'm guessing your missing quite a few days so will need something to say you have to get the teachers off your back for missing school so frequently. And if you're at work, same applies if you're having a lot of time off and need to get your boss off your back.

Hope this all makes sense, I tend to ramble then realise that what I've written is complete rubbish haha. Hope you start feeling better soon hun xxxHealth Question & Answer
