Hello,

(Thanks for the e-mail).

As usual, I'm afraid seborrheic dermatitis around the eyes is a bit more complicated a subject than it sounds. For a start, it has a more complicated name. At the places you describe, it would be called "angular blepharitis." Here is a picture, hopefully this is something like you're talking about...

In this picture you can see a heaping-up of crusty scales on opposite sides of the angle of the eye, (hence "angular"... 'blepharitis' means 'inflammation of the eyelids,' and if there is a seborrhoeic cause for that, it would be called 'seborrhoeic blepharitis at the angle' or 'angular seborrheic blepharitis') .

In this position, the problem is most often caused by skin infection, and it also raises the question of whether your eyes are draining away your normal tears properly.?

Obviously if the tear-drainage ducts at the inner corners of the eyes were blocked or infected themselves, you would have teary, watery eyes and some of these tears would spill-over. Here is a picture of the tear-draining arrangement,... http://www.medindia.com/patients/patient...

There is quite a good explanation of what can happen, here... http://www.goodhope.org.uk/Departments/e...

I am saying that if you only have angular blepharitis, it may not just be seborrheic, but also partly a skin infection, and partly some infection in the tear-ducts. The treatment for this would normally be antibiotic eye ointment, which is perfectly safe.

'Regular' seborrheic blepharitis affects the eyelid edges or margins, where the eyelashes are. The eyelashes get caked up with sticky goo and also flakes, - - which are like dandruff from the scalp. You could say that the eyelashes are 'hairs' like scalp hairs, and that they also get affected by dandruff like the scalp does. Like this.... http://www.merck.com/media/mmpe/thumbnai... and.... http://www.visualdxhealth.com/images/dx/...

I hope this is of some help, sorry the terminology is so complicated.

Best wishes,
