I have a relative living with me for a few months that has it and we are very careful but I have 3 little kids and I want to be as safe as I can without hurting any ones feelings. And how soon does it show up in your blood work if I get tested for it.?
Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Hep C is transmitted by blood, such as sharing needles for drug use with someone who is infected. Very rarely, it can be transmitted by unprotected sex.

You and your children should be careful to never share your relative's razors or toothbrushes, because these items could have blood on them, and Hep C can live on these surfaces for up to 4 days. I would suggest that your relative keep his/her razors and toothbrushes separate from everyone else's, and out of the children's reach. (You did not indicate how old the children are.)

also, if your relative ever has a bleeding injury that you need to help to treat, you should always wear gloves.

There is no need for other precautions. Hep C is not spread by casual contact.

It could take as long as 6 months to show up on tests.Health Question & Answer
