There's nothing to it - it is not an invasive procedure. You can be fully clothed as long as there's no metal (zips, bra fasteners, jewellery) or you'll be offered hospital gowns. You lie down and make yourself comfortable on the bed, you may be offered headphones with your own choice of music (you can take your own CD) and can close your eyes and relax. Try to keep as still as possible while the bed slides slowly through a large open-ended tube. It's really not too claustrophobic as you can still see the room through the open end. If it's not a full body scan but just one specific part (like pelvis, for example) it doesn't take long, maybe 15 minutes. The staff are always very kind, and you'll be given a call button to keep in your hand during the procedure if you have any problem. When you get your appointment letter, you should be sent some explanatory information with it.

Honestly, there's nothing at all to worry about. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. it is a large machine, where the patient lies on a table, and the table is then slowly placed into a hole in the machine. an electromagnetic field is then generated, and the scanner then records the signals produced by your body.
dont worry, it is a painless procedure, and no radiation exposure.
some patients dont like to be placed in a small closed space. be calm and things will turn out fine.
before doing an mri, they will ask you if you had any implant, nail, plate, artificial teeth, pacemaker etc. because the scan cannot work when any of these are present.
sometimes a contrast material is needed, so an injection may be given into your hand vein and then the scan will be repeated.
takes about an hour or so.Health Question & Answer

An MRI is easy and painless. Make sure you don't wear any jewelery to the appointment as they will make you take it off. Basically you lay on a bed that goes into a giant tube. You will be given ear plugs because there is a lot of clicking noises once you are in the tube. The key to a MRI is staying perfectly still and not being claustrophobic. Some medical facilities now offer what is called an open MRI. In this case you still lay on a bed but the machine is open instead of being enclosed. Best of luck with your first MRI experience.Health Question & Answer

You are just slid inside the tube slowly. You have to sit very still. You hear the magnets banging around inside the scanner for a few minutes, the table slides out.

hi, u dont need to worry, its a round machine like a polo and sounds like a washing machine and nothing touches only when they lie you down they put some kind of stiky tape over your head to keep really still. if your costophobic make sure you tell them as you may faint or panic, i had one when i was 10 and my boyfriend is has having one next tuesday you will be fine xHealth Question & Answer

I have had one. It may be a little scary if you are afraid of enclosed spaces but it is painless. The worst thing is the loud noise the machine makes but it doesn't hurt and it doesn't take very long. They will have you take off any metal you are wearing. It is not bad, just a little weird.Health Question & Answer

Yeah I had to have one on my brain last year.....they're easy but then again i'm not clostrophobic....if you are then they could be harder....basically all you do is lay there while they take pictures....they'll give you a little button to push if you want out. don't worry you'll be fine.Health Question & Answer

well i tried but hated it, felt completely claustrophobic, can't say anymore than that im afraid. It is painless, however i couldn't take it, and wouldn't do it again, unless it was a more open scannerHealth Question & Answer
