Genital Wart question?!

Question: Genital Wart question.?
Can you only be tested if you have a wart.?

I had sex with a guy over a year ago who recently told me he 'thinks he has hpv' He says he didn't have it when I had sex with him, but im not sure.? I have had no appearances on the outside of my vagina, and I'm not sure how they check if you have no signs. And would I have signs by now.?

Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
hpv can exist without any outward signs/lesions. often warts may be small to beginwith, and may not be noticed. it can also cause lesions on your cervix, which if untreated for long can lead to cancer of cervix.
pap rules out cancer. but for checking whether u are infected or not, please see ur gynecologist. she will examine u, do a colposcopy (peek into ur vag) do an acetic acid test (positive areas turn white) and/or if needed take a small biopsy. the biopsy can be sent for viral load. pap should be done annually.
