well, it depends if its an open MRI or a closed MRI. I've never been fortunate enough to have an open MRI since they are such new technology. Its not painful. You lay down on a platform (not the most comfortable but its tolerable). they settle you in in a position they need and you just lay there. in closed MRIs the table will go in to a tube, but usually once the test starts, the table does not move. its loud, but not painful. try to think of happy things while you are laying down. some of the MRIs i have had they have music they will play, either a radio station or CD (call them and ask, then you can bring a CD that relaxes you if they have that option). also, there is a microphone to the tech and he can talk to you if you need it, but they like you to lay still. Depending on the MRI, they may inject dye in to you, but it feels no different than giving blood or getting an IV. You'll do great. Think positive and you'll get thru the MRI! Health Question & Answer

You lay on a small table like thing, and it goes into a tube that goes from your head down to you stomach. Its not your whole body. They tell you to lie very still, and the tech can talk to you through a microphone, and you can usually readjust when he isn't scanning things. But if you move while he is you wont get a good scan. Mine last like 49 mins, so part of your body might fall asleep depending on how your laying. I was on my tummy. Its is very noisy, and they might give you headphones , but they didn't fit well. I think you may be able to bring a CD if you wanted. I don't know if its true but they told me to drink alot of water after.
Its nothing to be scared about. Health Question & Answer

I had one on a knee so I didn't have to go into a tunnel. Even with that, the staff was helpful and the environment was as pleasant as they could make it. They are trained and realize that you might be nervous about the whole thing.

It shouldn't take that long, just get it done, keep your eyes closed if you must and please be still because it is taking a picture. You are obviously getting it for a reason, and your loved ones want to see you have it done so you get the right treatment.Health Question & Answer

My 11 year old has had to have two closed MRI's - the first when he was 4 years old, the second at 9. His neurologists ordered him sedated for both. The test is absolutely nothing except a loud whirring kind of sound (someone compared it to the sound of a front load washer during spin cycle - only much louder). As long as you can be still, it's usually over very fast. Little kids like mine, they have to sedate! It really is no big deal and you will say "That's it.?" when it's over, I'm sure.Health Question & Answer

If you are really scared, you can always ask your doctor for a sedative as well. They do need for you to be still through the entire test, though. You will get earplugs so the whirring won't bother you. I sat with my daughter when she had one at age 18, and she just about fell asleep by the end of it!Health Question & Answer

Nothing. It's relatively fast. You'll be temporarily partially in a confined space. It's really not bad. Just close your eyes and imagine you are someplace else (at the beach, in the woods, etc.) where you like to be.

Just think. Big cowards like me went through it, so can you.Health Question & Answer

You don't feel anything. You lay on this skinny bed and they slide it into a tunnel. Some people with claustrophobia don't like the confinement, but most do not mind. It is somewhat noisy, but they give you earplugs.

The whole thing is no big deal :-)Health Question & Answer

they dont feel like anything you lay on a table and dont move is all. its just a big magnet that moves around you. you cant see it move because its inside a cover. it wont be bad at all. people get them all the time.Health Question & Answer

MRI's do not hurt. You just lay on a table that is put into the scanner. You just have to be very still while this is going on and that can be kind of hard to deal with, but you will be fine. Don't be scared.Health Question & Answer
