Should I go to an ophthalmologist or an optometrist?!

Question: Should I go to an ophthalmologist or an optometrist.?

I have had what seems to be big red styes in my eyes for a couple months and they aren't going away or even minimizing, so I plan to go to an eye doctor to diagnose and treat the problem. I'm just not sure which to go to and I don't want to go to the wrong one because I have no insurance and it would be a lot of wasted money. Any advice is much appreciated..... my dad had to get a sty off of his eye. you need to go to an ophthalmologist. optometrists are the ones that help with glasses where as ophthalmolgist is a doctor that can remove things such as stys.Health Question & Answer
