Can you get arthritis from cold weather?!

Question: Can you get arthritis from cold weather.?
My mom saw me wearing sandals today ( I always wear sandals until it starts snowing out). She told me later on in life from the cold weather my feet will most likely get arthritis. Is this true.? Health Question & Answer

Hmm, this sounds like the myth if you crack your knuckles you are more prone to arthritis. I am a fairly young arthritis sufferer and grew up in Scotland but wasn't diagnosed with it until after living in Texas (where it's very hot) for over 5 years.

Cold weather does aggravate symptoms of arthritis and can make it worse, but I highly doubt it can cause arthritis since I have yet to see some research conducted on the correlation between cold weather causing arthritis.

To make sure I was giving you the right information, and not just base it off my experience, I did some research and researchers claim that the above statement is a myth. There is a great website below that will tell you what WILL NOT cause arthritis!

Take care!Health Question & Answer

Weather doesn't cause arthritis, but it can affect arthritis. People can develop arthritis from excessive wear and tear on the bones - specifically the joints, or bones that were broken at some time. Those areas can develop arthritis, and the weather - be it rain, coldness, humidity,etc.-can have an effect on causing pain.Health Question & Answer

No, it is something that you get when your joints are old and worn.Health Question & Answer
