How is cholesterol taken into the cell?!

Question: How is cholesterol taken into the cell.?
I need a step by step process of it and thanks for the helpHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
you have LDL receptors in the cell membran to do it.-
there are two types of tranporters, one that is regulated, that means when the cell needs cholesterol there are more receptors (up-regulation) and when there's enough cholesterol the number of them lower, process known as down regulation.-
the other receptor, known as scavenger, isn't regulated. and that receptor has more affinity for the oxidated LDL (which are in the genesis of atherosclerosis, but that's other thing, hah).-
once the LDL bind to the receptor, both the LDL and the receptor are taken inside the cell by endocytosis.-
with HDL happens something similar, but you also have another mecanism to do it, the HDL binds to the receptor and it's taken inside the cell, without the endocytosis of the receptor.-
hope this helps you.-

Endocytosis. It involves a cell basically wrapping around another to pinch off a portion of it.

There's a pretty cool site showing the process here: http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/biolog...Health Question & Answer
