Ways to combat cat allergies?!

Question: Ways to combat cat allergies.?
I love cats, but they make me sneeze and stuffy when I'm around them. I love them too much to stay away though, and so once a week I volunteer at a cat shelter for a couple hours, but towards the end I feel really stuffy. I am not going to stop going and I can't go for less hours, so does anyone have suggestions on way to keep it under control.? I take Claritin every day anyway, but I seem to need to do something extra on cat shelter days. Thanks!Health Question & Answer

You can probably get a stronger medicine from a doctor specializing in allergies.

However, allergies often keep getting worse the more you're exposed to whatever triggers them. Would you still love cats enough to deliberately be around them, if you began having serious breathing problems.? Maybe you should collect cat photos instead, or donate supplies to the cat shelter.

Better pay attention to what the doctor tells you.Health Question & Answer

If you ask me, I don't really suggest taking allergy pills to combat allergies. The less medication/chemicals into your body, the better. All medicine/chemical have side effects on a human body.

I suggest the same with the other answer. Why not buy a face mask.?
Do not buy the normal face mask as they are not face tight. 3m sells a lot of face mask. There is one for animal care that should take care of most particulates.

Then slowly try changing to less effective masks to slowly expose yourself to Cat hair/particles. This will gradually build up your immune system, and eventually you will have allergic resistance to Cats.

your screwed...

but if you insist on being around cats, claritin does jack for me. I usually take Allegra-D. After about 2 years they arent affective anymore, so i switch to 2 times a day allegra and the 'D'. Was your hands alot and don't touch your face. Wear a face mask.? Bring a change of clothes.

Best would be to stay away. Theres nothing to really 'cure' the allergy.Health Question & Answer

talk to your allergist and vet about options. clean your home more frequently, dust with a damp rag, & brush the cats.Health Question & Answer
