Babysat a child yesterday who now is sick with a cold...?!

Question: Babysat a child yesterday who now is sick with a cold....?
Hey guys. Yesterday morning I babysat for a little boy (three going on four, not that that matters) for about two hours. Today his dad called me to tell me he has some sort of cold-like thing. My question is, would he have been contagious yesterday morning.? And when do you think I'll be in the clear.? I am severely emetephobic, so I wash my hands habitually, but I know there are other ways to contract it. Thanks!

also, do you have any suggestions of anything I could do to further reduce the chances of catching what he has (i.e. Vitamin C etc.) or is it too late to do anything about it now.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
He was DEFINTELY contagious yesterday. The incubation period for a common cold causing virus is about 5 days... so he has been contagious for a few days even before you babysat. You can try as of now taking high doses of vitamin C, but don't take HUGE doses as it will cause diarrhea. Usually about 500mg will cause the immune system to kick into gear. But keep in mind, vitamin C is not CLINICALLY proven to boost the immune system and the ONLY thing that can stop a cold virus from ruining your week is your own immune system. No soup or vitamin can cure a cold, you can only supress the symptoms.Health Question & Answer

Drink plenty of OJ and take a warm shower. Wash the clothes u were wearing yesterday and fix some chicken soup. Since u wash your hands often u should be fine. Good luckHealth Question & Answer
