You can't catch cancer from another person, but it is conceivable that you can catch a virus from another person that would lead to you developing cancer. The cancer that works that way is cervical cancer. Its often caused by the Human Papilloma Virus which is a sexually transmitted virus. So, while the guy who infects you with HPV doesn't have cancer, I guess you could say that you caught cancer from him. They have that new vaccine out, Gardasil that is effective against some of the strains of the HPV virus.

Its not contagious. It can be hereditary but not all the time. It just happens. Women who dont have at least one child are more likely to get cervical cancer. Chances are if your mom had breast cancer you might get it later too. Thats why teens andwomen should check themselves for breast cancer often.Health Question & Answer
