Can you get any STDs just by having unprotected sex or does your partner have to have something to begin with ?!

Question: Can you get any STDs just by having unprotected sex or does your partner have to have something to begin with .?
Me and one my friend had this debate about STDs, he thinks that one of the many ways you can get an STD is by creating one from having unprotected sex PERIOD. He feels that it don't matter if it's unprotected sex between two people who are in a monogamous relationship, clean and disease free. I always thought that one gets an STD by somebody who has already been infected. With my friend's logic then that means the condom shouldn't come off even if you're in a secure relationship or married, wtf.? Can somebody explain please.? Health Question & Answer

Your friend is WRONG! You can't "create" and STD just by having unprotected sex. STDs do not appear out of thin air. They are transmitted from person to person. The only way you can get an STD from having unprotected sex is if the person you are having unprotected sex with already HAS an STD.Health Question & Answer

Your friend is extremely confused on how STD's work. STD means Sexually Transmitted Disease, not Sexually Created Disease. One person involved in the sexual encounter must have a disease in order to pass it on to the next person. 2 clean people who have sex will not miraculously create a disease. Some people who have an STD may not know they have a disease or may not show symptoms. HPV is a great example of this. That is why condoms are always a good idea. Just because someone thinks they are disease free does not always mean they are. Blood tests by doctors are the only positive way to know if you or anyone else is disease free. Health Question & Answer

Viruses don't just get created because the condom comes off. Therefore, if both parties are clean (ie, no infections) then neither party will get an std even if it's unprotected. However, pregnancy is always a risk.Health Question & Answer

I was always told that if both you and your partner are free of any STDs then you cant get one but if one of you is infected they that leaves the door open for the transmission of a STDSHealth Question & Answer
