Question: How does family size influence patterns of disease.? Best answer up for grabs!.?
I'm really confused as to how family size is a factor which influences the changing pattern of disease in communities.
By patterns of disease i mean diseases in general and the frequency and rate which they occur.
Is a larger family more at risk of disease.?
Are childhood diseases less frequent now compared to many years ago.?
And how has family size changed over the years.?
Sorry with all the questions but i'm terribly confused!

This is an interesting subject which many people have and currently are debating. In general I think that family size is a factor in the pattern of disease but that it may have positive or negative effects depending on which disease. The two links below give an example of each where with asthma having a larger family decreased the prevalence and with MS it was shown that those from a larger family were more at risk for developing MS.

Genetics plays a huge role in disease but environment also is a factor so you would have to take into account that too. As for family size I believe that it has decreased over the years. One of the main reasons for having a bigger family previously was so that there would be people to work on the family farm. Now with most people having other types of jobs more people are having children later in life and thus less of them. In regards to your question about the frequency of childhood diseases I think it again depends on which disease you are taking about. We have got better about treatment so I think that less children are dying because of sickness.Health Question & Answer
