Question: People with diabetes please!!!!.?
Hi I am entering a pageant and for my platform I picked Type 1 Diabetes Awarness. This means alot to me even know I don't have diabetes and none of my family does . Today I walked for JDRF and it was amazing and what I want to know is do people with diabetes get mad when people without diabetes think they know how they feel and do they get mad at people without diabetes that really want to help find a cure and they have no family members with diabetes.?Health Question & Answer

No. We love it when people want to find out more information about the disease as it helps to raise awareness and hopefully to find a cure.
What does make us mad (well me anyway) is when people make assumptions about diabetes. People assume that it is a lifestyle disease and that you got it because you're fat and don't exercise. That's because type 1 and type 2 come under the umbrella of "Diabetes" but they are actually very different with different causes and treatments. The media has a lot to answer for when it comes to public awareness.
But hopefully you can help to raise awareness about type 1 with your pageant. Just make sure you do your research and know what you're talking about as it is a very complicated disease. I'm sure you'll do great.

no! my sister has the disease, and my family and i love it when people who have nothing to do with diabetes try and help out towards a cure. it does help to know a bit about what you are supporting. try reading up about diabetes and current events that have to do with the disease. this will help your understanding of what people with diabetes go through everyday. keep doing exactly what you are doing. its a great thing. thanks so much.Health Question & Answer
