What is the name of this disease or cancer? More details...?!

Question: What is the name of this disease or cancer.? More details....?
A cousin of my father has been paralyzed from her whole body, she is in a wheelchair, can hardly talk, and if she does for quite a while, she starts to cough. Basically her brain is the only part of her that is working. I think she started getting sick in late last year, then in May of this year, we saw her at a family party, and she was fine, dancing, walking, talking, but she had already said that she couldn't feel her hands at all.

what is that called.? What will happen next.? Will her brain start to die slowly.? Why does this happen.? She is in her mid 40's. Please no smart remarks. Health Question & Answer

It could be Multiple Sclerosis. Here is some info on that disease: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_sc...

Ask your father what the disease is, he probably knows. Then look it up and find out what she is going through. If you learn more about it, you might feel more at ease. Not knowing what's going on can be more frightening than knowing.

I'm sure your dad's cousin would appreciate a "thinking of you" card from you or maybe you could ask her if she could use any help. You'll find it very rewarding to assist her (and others like her). Simple household chores, running errands, reading to her.....there are so many things you can do. If she lives far away, you can write to her - she would enjoy that.

Health Question & Answer

It sounds more like a question for a neurologist and not a cancer specialist.
A lot of the symptoms resemble "progressive MS"...I know that only because i have MS as well. But it can be a few other diseases as well..that have to do with neurology.
She needs an MRI on her brain, and possibly a lumber-puncture to determine what exactly she has. Good luck.
