My husband was diagnosed with Viral (Aseptic) Meningitis. I'm very confused / worried?!

Question: My husband was diagnosed with Viral (Aseptic) Meningitis. I'm very confused / worried.?
Last night my husband had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was extremely sick - which is very rare for him. He had:
*shaking and chills *rapid temperature rise (it went from 98.3 to 101.4 in less then an hour, and while at the hospital it got up to 104.2 before it started to go down) *rapid pulse (I've tried taking his pulse but [1] he's shaking to hard and [2] I can't keep count) *flushed skin (it's also warm to the touch, but I don't know if that's the fever or not) *confusion (he kept calling me Charlie - which is his sisters name [Charlotte] who died six years ago) *Dizziness *Slurring his words *All over joint pain

He was diagnosed with Viral (Aseptic) Meningitis (which the doctor said could be gone within two weeks). He's still in Quarantine - for now, and still and and out of it (and still calling me Charlie).

While I'm worried and stressing over him. I hate to admit that I'm more worried about my children. I'm assuming since he's in Quarantine that this is a highly contagious disease. Our children are all under three. Is this something they could contract.? Should I have them tested.? How do I have them tested.?

also his brother - who also has two children both under two, stayed at my house last night, when my husband went to the hospital. Should he be worried that he could get this and/or contract it to his wife or children.?

At some point I'll actually breathe and look up the information online, but right now my mind is racing. They won't let me in the room with my husband - since he's in Quarantine - and the doctor is very abrupt, answering me with "yes" and "no" and offering no type of explanation.

He said my husband probably got this from either herpes virus or mumps virus. Neither of which he's had or has. So I don't know.

Any help would be extremely grateful.Health Question & Answer

I'm sorry but the good thing is that he had viral not bacterial which is deadly. The doctor is right it should be gone withing two week. the only way you're husband can pass it with your children is if he sneezes. Make sure you and your children wash you're hands and take baths. If they were to get that viral meningitis it wouldn't be deadly atleast. :) Has anyone with meningits sneezed on him.? mph the only thing i can say is take lots of care and lots of luck! you shouldn't be worried :) as long as he's in gods hand nothing can harm him ;DHealth Question & Answer

My advise would be to speak to his doctors about your concerns, they should advise you on the risks, but if they believed your children were at risk i would have expected them to start them on medication straight away. I know how scary it can be my dad had meningitis when i was 16, his was pneumococcus and he didn't have to go into quarantine so i imagine it is slightly different type. I hope he is ok and you get the answers you need.Health Question & Answer
