I've been on 9 asthma meds with horrible side effects...I doubt anything will help.?!

Question: I've been on 9 asthma meds with horrible side effects...I doubt anything will help..?
I've already had two doctors flatly give up on treating me.

Are there people who simply cannot take asthma meds.?

What do they do.?

I tend to have phlegm attacks with sever coughing an vomiting. But my current doctor says I don't have wheezing or asthma symptoms. He said it's bronchiolitis and pneumonitis and some other big doctor term that means collapsed lung.

What can someone tell me.? I need experience.
I do have my third appointment with this doctor in November.
I've been to two lung doctors, and allergy doc & my family doc.Health Question & Answer

To me it sounds like you may have COPD. Unfortunately, it can be misdiagnosed as asthma. I would make sure you're seeing a board-certified pulmonologist. They will have the most insight into respiratory diseases. I have heard of one too many primary care physicians misdiagnosing respiratory diseases because it's not their specialty....

Remember that it may take time to find the right combination of medicines that will help treat you. It took me going to the National Jewish Allergy and Asthma Research Institute in Denver to find the proper medicines to treat my asthma. However, it sounds like you need to get the proper diagnosis first....

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Sounds strange to me. If you're not asthmatic, why are you taking drugs for it.? Phlem only is not asthma - wheezing is.

Get to your doctor and be totally honest with them. It sounds like you're being treated for something you don't have.Health Question & Answer

Try using the Buteyko Breething Method....You can read about it here...http://www.buteyko.com/Health Question & Answer

If you have a lot of phlegm, try cutting out all dairy products for at least 3 weeks. It takes that long for them to get totally out of your system. Dairy is notorious for producing a lot of phlegm.

also, look into taking a lot of Vitamin C for your immune system. It is also a potent anti-inflammatory. There's a lot you can do nutritionally for an asthma or other lung condition.

My son did not do well on asthma meds at all. We took a nutritional approach, and within a few years he needed no more meds and is strong and healthy today as an adult.

I recommend working with a nutritionally oriented doctor, or with a nutritionist who will communicate with your doctor.

It will take some time to get healthier, but it can be done.
