I now have what is called cold air induced asthma. But today I have allergy trouble and I was coughing alot, I used my inhaler that I use for cold days and it helped with my coughing pretty quickly. Could the coughing be a kind of asthma.?Health Question & Answer

You also indicated that you have had a sinus infection or allergies. That causes alot more sinus drainage. The drainage irritates your trachea and bronchi; that causes an increase in coughing. You may need to get something called Advair, which can really open breathing passages in just a couple of seconds.
You may also need some cough syrup to quiet your cough.

Health Question & Answer

It would be difficult to diagnose without a more thorough history and physical. Cough is a symptom with a huge differential diagnosis list (all the possible causes).

Lets try to rule some of the other possible causes out.

First,

-Do you smoke.?
-Are you on an ACE-inhibitor (medicine that ends in -pril)
-Do you have a normal lung x-ray

If you said yes to one of the above, it is possible that could be the cause of the cough.

It doesn't sound like your cough is chronic (>8 weeks), however, chronic cough is most commonly caused by:

-Allergic Rhinitis
-Asthma
-Acid Reflux

The fact that your cough responded to the inhaler is suggestive that it could have been a symptom of your asthma. However, bronchodilators have been known to decrease coughing caused by other things.

For a more definitive diagnosis, talk to your physician. Hope this helped.?Health Question & Answer
