Are all brands of lancets for diabetic lancing devices for glucose testing the same?!

Question: Are all brands of lancets for diabetic lancing devices for glucose testing the same.?
I live in little town and the pharmacy we have doesn't carry the brand of lancets (Medisense) that came with my glucose meter. Can I use ReliOn or another brand of lancets.?Health Question & Answer

Not all lancets will fit in all lancing devices, but there are a few brands that are universal. Ask your pharmacist. If they don't carry them, a new lancing device is very inexpensive. Get one that uses the kind of lancets your pharmacy carries.....Health Question & Answer

The little plastic part that holds the needle varies (some are round some are squarish, some are thin) so another brand of lancet MAY fit. If it fits in your pen go ahead and use them. also, see if a really fine guage lancet fits your pen, the finer they are the less they hurt. Ask your pharmacist if you can buy a pen to fit the inexpensive lancets (or most comfortable ones).Health Question & Answer

Hi Kal E,

The only purpose of a lancet device is for you to get an adequate amount of blood to apply to your test strip so it's irrelevant as to which device you choose to use. The only concern you may have is how pain full it is but all lancet devices (to my knowledge) are adjustable with different settings to give you the most comfortable finger stick possible along with the needed amount of blood.

Whoever it is you buy your strips from whether it be Medisense or another distributor will gladly send you a free device along with the amount of lancets you ask for.The reason is simple, they don't want to lose your business when it comes to buying test strips, that's where they make their money.

Here is the number listed on their web site for you to contact:

Medisense....415/488-1141

Health Question & Answer

The lancets are made to fit the specific "pen".
Take the pen to the pharmacist and see if he can help.

For example, I use a "house brand" of lancets with an Accu-Check "pen". the lancets are a little longer, si I have to adjust the "strenght" dial, and be very careful, but othersie the work fine. Much cheaper. too!

Health Question & Answer

They aren't all the same, and they won't all fit into the different devices. Ask your pharmacist if they'll work. Health Question & Answer
