It has to do with the water pressure. Lets say the average sink holds 10 gallons of water. 1 gallon of water roughly weighs 7.25lbs. 10X7.25=72.5lbs of water pressure. NOW, multiply that figure by atmospheric pressure (14.7-1) = 72.5 X 14.7= 1065.75! 1066lbs of weight is a lot but because out bodies are somewhat porous, it can give off the same amount of pressure. Thats why we aren't being crushed by the hundreds of thousands of pounds of atmospheric pressure that surrounds us. But when your hands are in water, its harder for your hands to "give off" that much pressure because the water is heavier then air, hence the wrinkles :-) Health Question & Answer

WIMPY WIMPY WIMPY. i worked in a restaurant for months without a dishwasher. i became super efficient to say the least. the pruny-ness is caused by overhydration of your hand skin. it is the dead skin cells of your epidermis puffing up - that is why there is reduced feeling. Health Question & Answer

It's because there's a special oil on your skin, and when you keep your skin wet too long, it removes it. Health Question & Answer
