How can I deal with my bulimic roommate?!

Question: How can I deal with my bulimic roommate.?
Alright, so me and my friend are living in a student apartment. Just over a week ago, the complex gave us a new roommate. She seemed cool, it was all good. Soon I realized she ate A LOT. I was like okay, a skinny girl who eats a ton. Whatever. Well, then I spent 60 dollars on groceries. We made it clear that we all bought our own groceries, but we weren't gonna hype down on "WHO ATE MY WAFFLE.?" as long as it was kept fair. Well, the food was supposed to last me 3 weeks and she ate it in 3 days. I was annoyed of course because I'm broke... but also concerned. My friend has heard her vomit more than a few times after eating. We confronted our roommate's best friend, and she confirmed that our roommate is bulimic. Our roommate is still 17, doesn't turn 18 until the end of November. Should we confront her mother.? We don't know her well enough to confront the roommate directly. I am concerned about her, but I don't think it's selfish to also be concerned about food. I can't go out and buy more groceries for at least a couple weeks. I don't want to buy more groceries to just feed her binges, but I can't live off Ramen. How do I deal with this situation.? I don't want to step on any toes. I know bulimia is a serious disease and I want her to get help. Health Question & Answer

Invest in a safe or a refrigerator lock. Do not do any drugs around her because marijuana will make it worse and any drugs that cause weight loss will substitute the illness with an addiction just as bad.

Treat her nicely and say "I know there is nothing I can do to help you, I just want to tell you that I care about you and I am here for you if you want to talk. I do not judge you because I do not know what it is like to have the disorder." Or something along those lines.

Bulimia is an addiction to binging and purging, there is no way you can prevent her from stealing your food or your money to buy food. You have to realize that. Only therapy will help and she will have to decide to go ON HER OWN! I hope this helps. If she does want treatment, the best in the world is here: http://www.renfrew.org/Health Question & Answer

you are being way too nice. she ate your food, confront her. OR try tainting some of your own food with bodily fluids(urine, blood, butt sweat, ect.) and when she eats it ask-something like "who drank all my pee-pee o.j..?" you will never have food theft problems again.Health Question & Answer

You should confront your roommate and tell her that she has a problem. Tell her what can happen when you are bulimic. Ask how she'd feel if she didn't live to be 18.? You can seriously die from this, considering its your stomach ACID going up your throat.Health Question & Answer

i think you should tell her mom for sure or you could see a consular and tell her and them next time bring your room mate with her. she might be mad at you for a while but, she will thank you in the long run because that is very unhealthy. best of luck!

Say to her, ' I'm buying groceries for myself, but if you'd like to eat something from my food, ask me please.....and don't puke it up! Yeah I know what you're doing! If you don't sort yourself out, I'm getting you help.'Health Question & Answer

You should definitely talk to her mother about this before you confront her. Confronting her can make her illness worse. And you can't keep buying groceries for her. She needs help, badly. Health Question & Answer

Tell her mother. also tell her to get treatment! She needs the help. Besides, she didn't turn 18 yet, so her mother has legal control over her.Health Question & Answer

Ask her to leave...you are in student housing...tell the school you want her to find other housing.Health Question & Answer

I think you should talk about this big problem to her, and let her know how she then to do will be right.Health Question & Answer

She is not of legal age so yes I would confront her mother.
She will thank you someday for it.Health Question & Answer

talk to her directly, then talk to her momHealth Question & Answer

lock up your food or only stock enough you need for a day or two. Health Question & Answer

definitely dont go to her mom, shes old enough, talk to her yourself, the both of you, even though you dont know her well enough. and let her know that you need your food to last you three weeks and your not buying it so she can waste it and throw your money down the toilet. you can maybe talk to her about the bulimia but you dont understand since you dont have it, its hard getting over eating disorders.Health Question & Answer

If she's doing the bulimic thing then i suggest you tell her to seek professional help. close friends won't even be able to help her if what you're telling me is true. If she does it EVERY time then it's a problem, if she doesn't you might be able to talk her out of it but, come off gently, don't go straight to asking her a question like this 'why do you throw up after you it'.? or something. Hope this helped.Health Question & Answer

Confront her first not her mom. You need to live with this girl not her mom so it's her problem. Tell her that you spent your budget and she ate it then wasted it by vomiting because of her sickness and this isn't fair to you and the other roommate. Don't be kind about it because the nicer you are about it the more she will feel she can walk all over you. Believe me it's true niece has already made these problems with her college dorm mate and not it's way bad.
Tell her if this is the behavior she has then she will need to leave your food and the other roomies food alone and support her own illness as you simply can't afford it. Then tell her if it continues you have no choice but to speak to her parents about the problem.Health Question & Answer

You may not know her for very long, but you need to speak to her first about your concerns. She has a serious condition and should go to a therapist. Bulimia can kill. Talking to her will not stop her from stealing your food, though. It will take lots of time in therapy to get her condition under control. In the meantime, try to find a way to lock up your food. Can you put things that don't need refrigeration in your dorm room closet and put a lock on the closet.? Can you lock the fridge.? Some small fridges for dorms have locks on them.
Good luck, sweetie.Health Question & Answer
