Question: Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome.?

I guess it's known as acute respiratory distress syndrome now. Could someone please tell me what could cause it. My mother died from shortly after giving birth to me, it ended up cause her heart lungs to fail. My mother was in a wheelchair could that have anything to do with it.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:

ARDS is a lung disease that can have a multitude of causes including inflammation, impaired gas exchange, etc. It can occur 24-48 hours after an injury or illness and can occur after giving birth. Essentially, ARDS presents with shortness of breath that leads to the inability to breathe and as you unfortunately found out is often fatal.
