Question: Is this asthma or just a viral thing.?
i recently saw my doctor because i have had a cold and cough and i had facial pain and was clearing my throat a lot,i was told chest is clear and was given antibiotics for sinusitis-that was 5days ago,i am still coughing and occasionally when in bed i cough continually until it feels like i am not breathing which is a bit frightening.i don't wheeze and i am not breathless so whats causing this .?it's like i am not taking a breath between coughs its just a continual coughing fit that lasts about half a minute.Health Question & Answer

It sounds like you're still sick from the sinusitis. Usually you're supposed to take antibiotics for 10 days, so I wouldn't expect symptoms to really go away with any significance until about day 7. Coughing in itself shouldn't be worrisome. Sinus drainage can tickle your throat and make you cough.

I've had coughing fits like that before. It seems like coughing just triggers more coughing and it becomes hard to stop. It doesn't seem to be anything serious, though if you finish the medicine and you still are feeling sick, go back to the doctor and talk to him about it.

Try not to lay vertically. Prop your shoulders up a bit on pillows or something. Lying flat on your back usually makes coughing worse.Health Question & Answer

I was diagnosed with asthma at 18 months, and I can count on one hand the number of attacks I've had without wheezing.
