How do find a 'safe' way to tell if your child is allergic to peanut products? ?!

Question: How do find a 'safe' way to tell if your child is allergic to peanut products.? .?
My sister-in-law is very leery about giving my nephew peanut butter or peanut butter products because he is only 22months old. No one in our family is allergic as far as I'm aware and we were raised eating just about everything....any info.?Health Question & Answer

Introduce new foods one at a time and in small quantities. If there is no history of this type of allergy in your family, or the kid's dad's family, then the risk of him having a spontaneous reaction is very slow. Most allergists will not perform allergy testing without symptoms of reaction showing up before hand. Your sister should be aware that peanut oils and proteins are found in may other products other than peanut butter products. Like formulas, tomato sauces, chocolates, etc. So chances are, he's already been exposed. Even if he has no problems now, that is no guarantee that he won't have a reaction in the future if he is allergic.
I think your SIL is being a bit overprotective. Have her read the labels of some foods she's already given the baby, and I'd bet she'd be surprised to learn that she's already given him peanut based products.Health Question & Answer

Not having food allergies in the family doesn't really mean much.

Asthma, eczema, and allergies (seasonal, environmental, food, etc) are all the same gene and can be passed down in any form.

If one parent has one or more of these, the child has a 50/50 chance of having developing one or more. If both parents have one or more, the child has a 70/30 chance.

If the baby is already 22 months and doesn't seem to be allergic to anything, doesn't have asthma or eczema, then he is probably not going to be allergic to peanuts either.

He can't *really* be allergic unless he has been exposed at least twice in some form. Well, he can, but it's less likely.
Exposure can be through breast milk or even in the last 3 months of pregnancy if mom ate any. If neither of those, then don't expect a reaction until at least the third time, but still go slow.
Personally, if it were me, I would wait until he can say the words "mommy my tongue/throat itches".

If you try peanuts on him and he has even the mildest of reactions, get him in to see an allergist as soon as possible, and keep all peanuts away from him until then.Health Question & Answer

Only way to find this out is in a control environment -- doctor's office. Have your sister take her to the pediatrician and they will perform an allergy test on her and if she does react they have the right set of shots to give to her right away if she so happens to be allergic. also, if her 22 month old has eaten like other types of food, many foods contain peanut oil in it, so if she has had other types of food other than baby food, 9 out of 10 says she isn't allergic to peanuts.Health Question & Answer

Put a hundred peanuts in a blender, blend it up, and then inject him with it.Health Question & Answer
