What is a retrovirus?!

Question: What is a retrovirus.?
Answers:
it is a virus that replicates "backwards"

Human cells make DNA as their "brain" genetic material in the cell nucleus. From DNA, they transcribe RNA, and from RNA they make proteins.

In retroviruses, their genomic material is RNA.
the retrovirus has an enzyme called "reverse transcriptase" that can "backward copy" this RNA into double stranded DNA
This double stranded DNA then actually integrates into the host cell's genome. In effect, therefore, when you are infected with HIV, the HIV actually becomes part of your cell -- you cannot remove it from an infected cell. It is the same as Seth Brundel in the movie "the fly".

So retroviruses are any RNA virus that replicates by making a DNA copy of itself, then integrating into a host DNA . It is then the host's own cellular machinery that will make the actual copies of HIV RNA . The virus has tricked the human cell into replicating more virus.Health Question & Answer
