Is it possible to get genital herpes without sexual contact?!

Question: Is it possible to get genital herpes without sexual contact.?
I haven't had any sexual contact (im a virgin) but I'm afraid I might have genital herpes... I will go to the clinic soon I just realised I may have it and I'm freaking out..

Is it really possible though.? I've looked up pictures and it's similar to what I have. I was in the hospital and had jaw surgery and a couple of days after I got back I noticed some red dots on the head of the penis and everything was gone after about a week and there was the odd red dot here and there for the next few weeks and now it looks like it did before (it's been about a month).

It looks more or less just like burst blood vessels or something beneath the skin there's no texture to it and it's just pinkish-red. I stress I've had no sexual contact unprotected or otherwise... please tell me I don't have herpes.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
This doesn't sound like herpes to me.

Herpes hurts. It usually looks like open sores, blisters or small cuts. Not just red dots.

Plus, herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact. The virus dies quickly away from the human body. If your genitals have never come in contact with someone else's mouth or genitals, then you would need a super-wierd situation to have caught herpes. Someone would need to have rubbed a towel against their open herpes sores, and then IMMEDIATELY passed the towel to you for you to rub against your genitals, for example.

So no. I'm pretty sure you do not have genital herpes.Health Question & Answer

Then no you cannot have herpes...it comes from a skin to skin contact with someone who has it, unless you have had oral sex with a person who has a fever blister on their lips then I would not worry about it. You said no sexual contact so i'm assuming nothing...not even oral right.? Okay...you should not worry...just calm down. It could be an allergic reaction to maybe some laundry soap your mom is using or maybe some body wash you are using...it could be anything but herpes I doubt it.Health Question & Answer

They gave you an antibotic after the jaw surgery right.? You could be having a reaction to the medicine. Honey you dont have herpes. You'd know, they say it's really painful. I would google the antibiotic that you got and see what the adverse reactions could be.Health Question & Answer

u can be born with some std's
Health Question & Answer

Huber is pretty spot on in his answer.

Your symptoms don't sound like herpes to me either, but better to get it checked then to avoid a clinical diagnosis. Have them check for a latent urinary tract infection as well. You would have had a catheter put in if you had surgery requiring full anesthesia. This could lead to bruising or rarely a UTI. Catheters don't lead to STD's.

That said, back to your original question. Yes, you CAN get herpes in the genital region with out having had sex of any kind. It is unlikely, but if you have oral or nasal cold sores, you can transfer the virus to other susceptible areas such as genitals or eyes. It is EXTREMELY important to practice good hand washing if you have any kind of cold sore. (Practice good hand washing anyway - also works against the common cold.)

Regarding HSV 1 and 2. Yes, it used to be that HSV 1 was "oral herpes" and HSV 2 was "genital herpes" but there is so much cross infection that the strain has more to do with the specific virus and out break pattern then it has to do with the location of the out break.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

From what you described, it doesn't sound like you have Herpes. Herpes causes some very specific symptoms. Before an outbreak, you get a very sensative, tingling, itchy sensation. Later, you will see anywhere from just a few to numerous small, round, vesicles in a pattern that resembles grapes in a bunch. They are very painful and will break in just a few days, leaving behind small scabs. All this takes about 10-14 days. Some people can have and transmit Herpes without ever having an outbreak or evn knowing they have the virus.

Be aware though, you can get Herpes without ever having sexual intercourse. I know that sounds a bit odd, so let me explain. First though, if you even think you have Herpes you really need to do two things, 1) Go see your family doctor, 2) Don't have any form of sexual contact until you know for certain. Herpes can be transmitted even if you don't have an outbreak.

Genital herpes is caused by Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV2), but another variant of Herpes (HSV1) is found in things like Cold Sores. If you have ever received oral sex from someone who had a cold sore, even though all the evidence of the sore was gone, you can contract Herpes. It appears the same, has the same symptoms, and last about the same amount of time. Since more and more teens are avoiding intercourse and practicing oral sex, I have seen an increase in the transmission of HSV1 to the genital area. If you have ever rubbed your penis on or around someone else's genitals, you can contract Herpes. Getting any bodily fluid from the genitals on your genitals in anyway can transmit Herpes.

Health Question & Answer

If you haven't had sexual contact then most likely you don't have genital herpes.
Genital herpes like skin to skin contact to pass on and it's usually passe on during regular vaginal sex and oral sex. It also doesn't like to live on surfaces of objects for more then a few seconds. So you couldn't have gotten genital herpes from surgery. Some one would have to rub the instruments on their genitals then immediately after use them on you, kind of gross but that's the way herpes works and I doubt that a hospital would be that unprofessional.
It could be an in grown hair or an allergic reaction to some thing. It could be plain old pimples, boils, infection from improper cleaning, pearly papules.
If your still worried then you can get tested for genital herpes at your regular doctor or a local clinic. Preferably while you still have the red dots so the doctors have some thing to test.Health Question & Answer
