Question: Is bird flu a real threat.?

hi everyone im a mother of 3, and ive recently seen around the web an increasing amount of stories about bird flu

this is concerning for me as im sure you'll understand, however im uncertain on many details

does anyone have any facts/figures for me.?

is it a real threat.?

and most importantly is there anything i can do.?.?

any information will be appreciated

well lynn,
its a complicated matter, bird flu IS a threat, but lets be clear its not the same as seasonal flu, it is highly pathogenic and deadly.
and at the current time there is no vaccine as we do not yet know which strain will cause a pandemic, however at the moment humans cannot contract the virus as it is an avian strain only. it CAN however mutate at any time so then it can transfer between humans.
the most efficient way of protecting you and your children against it is by using the ant-viral medication 'tamiflu', this is a capsule, NOT an injection, and should be taken at sign of the first symptoms. Preferably witith the first 48 hours.

Bird flu is only a threat to those that raise birds or poultry as a living, because it could wipe out their flocks. It is not something that humans can get, it has not mutated that far. It only effects birds, poultry and water fowl. You don't have anything to worry about. Most people that are afraid of it don't know the facts.....Health Question & Answer
