My daughter has a non itchy rash behind ears and on forehead near hairline...?!

Question: My daughter has a non itchy rash behind ears and on forehead near hairline....?
She is 12 yrs old and today at school she noticed a rash behind her ears, some on her forehead (near hairline), and back of neck/beginning of back area. She says it doesn't itch her. She feel fine other than she is feels hot but no fever. Her cheeks look a little pinker than normal. We can't think of anything she put on that would do it.....any help. I was looking online and a measels rash starts behind the ears and around hairline forehead. She isn't sick that we know of, she had a little cough a week or two ago but nothing bad at all. Help.?Health Question & Answer

I'd suspect the cause has more to do with something she put on her hair - shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, gel, or the like. Those areas are spots where it may not always rinse away completely or it can concentrate, and irritate the skin. If this were measles, she would have fever and a sore throat as well, and the rash would itch. You can also look inside her mouth for the Koplik's spots if you like. Those will be tiny white spots with a bluish center, usually found inside the cheeks. It would be very rare for her to have measles if she was immunized. One other stray thought, consider if she has been wearing a hat or cap, or wrapping her head in a scarf. If she just pulled a wool cap out of winter storage, and it was packed up with moth balls or cedar chips, those can irritate skin. So can residual soap or softener used to wash them. On the outside chance it's an allergic reaction or irritation, you can apply hydrocortisone cream to the rash to help soothe it. If she does suddenly spike a fever, or you find the spots in her cheek pockets, you need to call your doctor though. There isn't anything that can be done if it's truly measles, but she will need monitoring while it progresses. If it's measles, she had been contagious for about four days now, and will be contagious for the next nearly 2 weeks. The doctor will need to alert health officials as well- measles is highly contagious. However, hopefully it's just a local skin irritation.Health Question & Answer
