Question: Does anyone now how to stop itching caused by what appears to be an allergy to tegretol taken for nueropathy.?
I literally itch from my head to my toes, I can't sit still I can't sleep and pretty soon people are going to notice and think I have some sort of dreaded skin disease. There is no rash and a little bit of swelling. I started taking Tegretol for nueropathy 10 days ago and started itching 3 days ago, this is driving me nuts, I really haven't slept in 3 days. Please help with any suggestions on how to releive itching.
I have taken a Hayfever tablet and got about an hours relief from that but it was a 12 hour one so 6 more hours til I can use that again.

I took tegretol for seizure disorder and also had terrible itching. My doctor took me off it and switched me to a new medication that gave me no side effects.
You should call your doctor immediately and inform him of the problem. You should be switched to another medication. In the mean time, take some more benedryl. You can take 100 mg every four hours if needed.Health Question & Answer
