The antibiotic just helps shore up the immune system, it doesn't specifically target out the tonsils, dear. Only your immune system can do that. With the help of antibiotics, you generally begin to see improvement within three or four days. However, if the cause of the tonsillitis is viral in nature, you could still be looking at a week or ten days because antibiotics don't kill a virus. Thats a job only your immune system can do, and the antibiotics will just stave off opportunistic infections while that happens. Taking all the extra antibiotics has probably killed off all the good gerbies in your gut as well, and you will likely end up with some diarrhea or at the least a belly ache. In the meantime, I suggest you lay off all the dairy products, and stick to very cold liquids- and lots of them. Sore throats are generally less sore if kept moist, drinking or sucking on hard candy will help with that. Cool off the room you are in some, and that will also help make you more comfy. And stop taking the extra doses of penicillin. Just because a little will help doesn't mean a lot is better, in this case it isn't and it won't work any faster. You feel like warm dookey because you are sick and your body needs you to chill out and rest. If the throat pain is really bad, you can use one of the throat sprays like Chloraseptic to help numb matters temporarily. Otherwise, stick to cold and frozen stuff, and drink until your molars float. Roll up the welcome mat outside the door and turn sleeping/resting hermit for a few days. And take the medication like it was prescribed.Health Question & Answer

You're not going to hurt anything by taking an anti-inflammatory like aspirin or Tylenol to make the swelling in your tonsils go down. Raw Honey in tea might not hurt either, in fact, it kills germs. Health Question & Answer

Probably because you haven't had them out yet.Health Question & Answer

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. The first doctor told me I had strep throat and gave me some meds . A week or more later I went to a different doc who said I hadtonsillitiss. She wrote out another prescriptionn for the SAME meds. I was on the meds for about three weeks before it finally cleared up completely. I would go back to the doctor or see a different doctor and be sure to tell them what the other one said. You say you can't eat, but try to sip down some chicken noodle soup broth. I did that for about a week straight. The warmth seemed to sooth my tonsils .Health Question & Answer

Please be careful in taking antibiotics like penicillin.Take only what the Dr.'s prescribe hour.If you take in a lot, your body system will be immune and will not cure your tonsilitis and you need to double your prescribe medicine to take effect. If you take it now, it does'nt mean that you will be cure next day. It goes to our system and wait till it take effect. You can also have your tonsilitis remove but the drawback is you will have no more filter and be phrone to cold and cought. also consult your Dr.
I hope this will help.Health Question & Answer
